A song for Achebe

Standard

“Writers don’t give prescriptions, they give headaches,” I read.
“The writer in whose company the prison walls fell down,” Mandela once said.

The father of modern African literature
A pioneer, inspiration and teacher

Bringing An image of Africa to us all
Black and white
Great and small

A man of the people
No longer at ease
You brought the Western World down to its knees

You will live on through the page and on you, Achebe, I’ll spend my wage
